Milford is independently accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) to test its products to
AS/NZS 4034 — the most stringent load restraint performance standard in the world. Milford are committed to delivering safe & proven products,
as a result we perform rigorous testing of all of our products and therefore maintain a significant investment in test equipment which includes:
Impact (Drop Testing) for Cargo Barriers
This form of testing is a means of replicating the results of a frontal impact test for cars at 48.3km/h. The drop test rig (built in compliance with AS4034)
has a capability of dropping a test mass from a height of up to 5.5m. Maximum test mass is around 200kg.
Typically, most Cargo Barriers are tested at 60kg single mass, equating to approximately. 6000 joules of energy being applied to the
Cargo Barrier at impact. For Penetration testing of cargo barriers we use an adjustable test frame in conjunction
with a hydraulic ram, load cell and penetration force ram.
Dynamic Towbar Testing
We employ a reversing load applied through the tow ball for > 2,000,000 cycles at a designated load of up to 6000 kg.
This sophisticated test rig can accommodate complete vehicles as well as test frames.
Linear and load transducers are employed along with full data logging to capture both Cycles versus Force (kN) and Cycles versus Deflection (mm).
Static Towbar Testing
Static Towbar testing is the method of testing we employ to ascertain the static strength of a towbar and its attachment to a vehicle structure.
Static load is applied through the tow ball for a number of cycles at a designated frequency and the measured deformation is averaged.
Milford utilise high speed video capture at up to 1000 frames per second to record test events. All measuring equipment is
regularly calibrated in accordance with AS ISO/IEC17025.
